Thalassery Cake
The glory of Thalassery is linked to three 'c's - cricket, circus, and cake. The cake was made first time in the state, and perhaps in India, more than 129 years ago.
It was in November 1883 that Mambally Bapu made the first cake in India at Thalassery in his Royal Biscuit Factory founded in 1880," said P M Sankaran, president, BAKE. There was only one bakery other than this in the country then. That was in West Bengal and only catered to the British.
During the World War I, Bapu exported cakes and other sweets to the soldiers. And, later, people all over the state flocked to his bakery to purchase his delicious cake.

successors of Bappu turned out to be experts in cake-baking as they
opened new shops all over the state.The cake-making formula was not
confined to Bappu and his successors alone.
During the 129th anniversary celebrations of the cake.,A giant cake with a length of 350 ft and weighing 1,200 kg was prepared The bakers in the state celebrated it as ‘Oru Desathinte Katha’ (The story of a village).
